The term Tankard originates from the fusion of two opposing words; tank and retard. In more recent times the common usage of ‘tank’ has endured in language to describe either a heavy military vehicle, a large container for liquids or as a jovial descriptor for an obese male. The same cannot be said of ‘retard’ which although enjoying some recidivance through the Black Eyed Peas 2004 chart topper ‘Let’s get retarded in here’ has since fallen on unpopular times and is now considered offensive slang similar to Pussy (previously meaning - a domestic cat). Today the term Tankard remains reasonably viable and offers the thirsty worker a substantial serving of the alcoholic beverage of their choosing. However as a larger serve it should be cautioned that drinking this volume of whiskey or similar hard spirit may result in shitting your pants and falling asleep on the kitchen floor.
